Merry Christmas to all who celebrate

Happy holidays to everyone! Personally, I celebrate Christmas as my seasonal holiday, and it happens to be Christmas, so Merry Christmas to all!

I had a pretty average week here leading up to Christmas. Nothing exciting to report except that I went to dinner with my parents and boyfriend last night (steak!) and then he and I went to Rogue One. Which was awesome. And later today I will be headed out to celebrate Christmas with my boyfriend's family. But first Christmas Mass with my parents.

It's a freezing drizzly Christmas here, with wind and rain all day long, followed by snow on Monday. Lovely driving weather for me, my sister, and my nephew who are planning on going up north to a lodge tomorrow to celebrate her 40th birthday. Hopefully everything will work out as planned!

Currently Reading: Same books as last week. But I'm nearing the end of two of them. :)

Completed: It's been an uneventful week for reading, so I haven't actually completed ANYTHING to report this week.

Acquired: I haven't opened all my presents yet, so this isn't my complete Christmas haul. I managed to get free copies of Trevor Noah's Born a Crime and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man from Audible. And a friend on LibraryThing sent me two books I hadn't heard of before: The Hakawati, by Rabith Alameddine and Binti, by Nnedi Okorafor. I'll report the rest of my Christmas Haul next week. :)

  1. Merry Christmas! In the Woods is on my TBR and I look forward to seeing what you think of it. I read The Stand a few years ago. I liked it, although I thought that some of it should have been condensed, which is my typical thoughts when reading Stephen King.

    1. Thanks Toady! You too! The Stand is good, but should definitely be condensed. Which, as you say, is typical of King. I'm not even half-way through and I'll probably have to set it aside for a month because I have other reading "obligations" for group reads / book clubs etc. But I'll pick it up again.

  2. A belated Merry Christmas Rachel.

It has ben a long time since I have read the stand but I have been thinking about it a lot lately. The themes contained in that book seem very relevant for our time.

I have not read Elizabeth Gaskell but I would like to. I think that she is an author that I would like.

    1. I'm pretty pleased with my first Gaskell novel. As I was hoping, it has a lot of socially important issues of the time. North and South goes a lot into the pros and cons of unionizing.

  3. Hope you had a Merry Christmas. We saw Rogue One - I hated it, mostly because it made me cry for like 45 minutes. I may have told my family I'm never watching another Star Wars movie. I try my hardest to avoid books and movies that will make me cry, but no one warned me.

    1. I understand your feelings. I totally didn't see that coming.

  4. I liked Rogue One, too. And today I'm very glad to be able to stay inside and enjoy some hot chocolate and a good book as there is a foot of snow outside and some very cold temps. Hope you had a very Merry Christmas! :)

    1. A foot of snow! I used to love snow when I was a kid, but now that I don't ski that much anymore I don't like moving the snow or driving in it too very much. But then, I wasn't too appreciative of our ice-storm on Christmas either. :)
