Well, the new year has rung in and I'm eager to get out here and get all my challenges complete. This week went well - no glitches at work, hung out with some laid back friends for New Year's Eve, that kind of stuff. And I don't work today! YAY! (I work the weekend, but having a holiday in the middle is wonderful.)
Studies: I finished the first two chapters of my EMT book in anticipation of January being a very full month for me. If you're interested in checking out my short notes.

I note an interesting pattern here, which I've never seen before - 4 of the five are non-fiction. Also, White Trash Zombie jumped in there even though I hadn't really expected it to be all that great. Who knew?

Happy New Year Rachel.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that your favorite books of the year were non - fiction. I read a good amount of it myself. When I make my own personal lists of favorites I tend to keep the fiction and non fiction seperate in my mind.
Yeah, there actually weren't 5 fiction books that really stood out to me. The only other one that popped when I read through the list was The Girl with All the Gifts which was a "literary" zombie novel.
DeleteSevered sounds like an interesting book... albeit quite macabre! Is that how it comes across?
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit macabre at times, though it as really well done.
DeleteI think A Tale of Two Cities is Dickens' finest, even though consensus is David Copperfield. We may have had this discussion before. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI've read them both, but ToTC was a long time ago, so I can't judge yet. I'm not sure I'd choose David Copperfield has his best, though.
DeleteHappy New Year!! I really like the new books you acquired. I haven't read any of them yet.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't make you read Tale of Two Cities in high school? Wow. I thought everyone had to read it.
DeleteHappy New Year! I had a low key one too and it was nice. I liked your post on creationism- as a Christian I'm probably more sympathetic to that view than some, but I think it's complicated. :) As a young person I really struggled with evolution vs religion, and I don't pretend to have it all figured out. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHave a super week.
I haven't figured it all out either, but I don't believe they are mutually exclusive. Just because there's a God does not mean there is no evolution. I'm not sure what the big deal is, honestly. The Bible is one big parable, in my own opinion.
DeleteHappy New Year! I loved The Equalizer! It was such a good film, and I'm usually not a fan of reboots. I used to watch the tv show as a kid. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteBeing Mortal was one of my favorite books of 2015, too. Happy reading this week :)
ReplyDeleteI like your favorites list. Being Mortal is on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteI gotta read White Trash Zombie!
ReplyDeleteI bought Silver Linings Playbook after seeing the movie but I haven't read it yet. *sigh* Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see what books end up on the best lists. Nonfiction and Zombies...what a great combination of books. Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. I have never read a Zombies book, perhaps one day I might try one!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I loved "Little House in the Big Woods!" I know a lot of people found it dull because there isn't much of a plot, but I loved the "slice of life"-ishness of it.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. You have a nice list of books there. You can see mine here: http://theresaraymer.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteENJOY your books.
ReplyDeleteI actually do not know any of them.
Happy Reading!!
Elizabeth
